Catlinite Pipe

(1/2) > >>

flint_illustrator:
Recently a good friend of mine bought a small collection of artifacts at a show. I was there with him when he bought it. I noticed there was a pipe in one of the riker mounts and asked him if he ever wanted to get rid of that pipe to let me know. He said he wasnt into pipes and handed it to me and said "Here you can have it" I was shocked! I couldnt thank him enough! Just wanted to show everyone the pictures of this pipe.

Great piece! Love the engravings. It was found in Rice Co. KS

neanderthal:
Fantastic piece!  I love catlinite, especially pipes.  I have a frame full of catlinite, pipes and even busted pieces.  Damn cool stuff!

Kevin Young:
Interesting pipe....nice stick-man engraving.

neanderthal:
You know that Catlinite had to be a very special stone to the aboriginals.  It was used all over the place and they went far out of their way to acquire it.  Many of of the pipes are engraved, especially disk pipes.

There's a catlinite disk pipe at the museum that has some pretty funky engravings.  The designs depict a man being attacked by something at the head, stomach and groin area, or maybe even the sundance.  Dunno, but it's a very kewl piece.

scooper:
Fabulous artifact.  Any idea how old it might be?
